World’s 5 Highest Residences Located at Dizzying Heights

When you think of buying a home, it is normal to think of its proximity to work, public transport, shops, transport routes, and local schools. What you probably wouldn’t think of was the proximity to the clouds; there are some properties available worldwide that dominate the skyline. But how tall is the tallest residential high-rise in the world*?

Q1 Tower, Gold Coast City, 1,058ft

The tallest residential sky rise in the world is located in Gold Coast City, Queensland, Australia. At a staggering 1,058ft, you can pretty much guarantee a scenic view from your window. Here you can buy apartment space on one of the 80 floors, and swim in the highest swimming pool in Australia in the penthouse on the 74^th floor.

HHHR Tower, Dubai, 1,040ft

Currently being constructed by new home builders in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, this tower is due to launch this year. It will have 72 floors, most of which will be residential space, with less than ten per cent of the building dedicated to commercial office space.

Moscow, Moscow, 989ft

Another residential high rise due in 2010 is Moscow, located in Moscow, Russia. With 76 floors, this is the third highest residential building in the world. It will be decked out with double-decker elevators for speed and access to the apartments. As it will be located in the central district, these are views that only money could buy.

Eureka Tower, Melbourne, 975ft

The Eureka Tower actually has more floors than the Q1 Tower, but ranks fourth in the tallest residential towers at 975ft. It is located in Melbourne, Australia. This building cost approximately $500 million (Aus) to build, and stands tall in the Melbourne skyline. There is a public observation deck on the 88^th floor for those who can’t splash any cash on a dizzying pad.

Emirates Crown, Dubai, 971ft

Measuring 971ft, the Emirates Crown located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, is the fifth tallest residential high rise in the world. It was opened in 2008, allowing space for 59 stories of residential space out of a possible 63. This tower is situated next to the Emirates Marina hotel, but is taller than its neighbour.

*These figures represent buildings that have at least 90% dedicated space for residential units. They do not include TV towers, masts, and other building types.

Motorola Droid X: My iPhone Killer

During the past two years, I have owned the iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, and the iPhone 3GS. I could best be described as an iPhone teamster. That is until I saw the preview for the Droid X. I don’t know if its the size of the new Droid X or the fact that it is on a network that actually provides customer service and coverage, but I have converted from the iPhone to the Droid X and I have never felt better.

Here are the specs:

Display: 4.3″, 854×480
CPU: 1GHz TI OMAP
Storage: 8GB onboard, 16GB microSD card included (32GB max)
Camera: 8-megapixel, dual LED flash
Ports: HDMI out
Battery: 1500mAh
Other: 3 microphones (one noise-canceling), GPS, Bluetooth

Pricing and availability: the Droid X will be available on July 15th for $199 after a $100 mail-in rebate. $30 for unlimited data and an extra $20 for hotspot functionality (2GB cap). Any Verizon customer with a contract expriring in 2010 can upgrade.

The Droid X will be Verizon only, but it was hinted that there will be a similar phone for international android fans available at a later date.
